Changed my tranny fluid and filter saturday, I bought the filter kit from advance. Turns out the one they make for our 3.8's does not fit. It is totally diff from the stock one, its wider and wont let the pan bolt back up. I took it back and took my stock filter in and said look up a 95 3.4, (I drive 97 3.8) and wolla exact match.

I too have a 3.8 97 and only use FRAM filters. The correct part number is FT1146. Sure hate replacing that seal. Another GM genius design... [img]graemlins/thumbsdown.gif[/img] -
The two filters should almost be the same...same tranny. I changed my filter this summer and the new one was different from the factory one, but fit.
