ok well this is what he told me, he said he had not done gears on my particular vehicle and was going to do some research and i told him what all came in the (deluxe) install kit and he said so far from the sounds of it, it will not be bad/hard at all! he does not have a "shop" i dont know if i should let him do it or what, i dont know him very well so i dont know what to do, he told me if research goes well and there is nothing crazy and unexpected that he does not know about right now that it will be about 200, what do you all suggest how much would a regular shop charge for an install of posi, gears, if i had the install kit. and what kind of shops should i call just the local auto shops

if he never did it before, i wouldn't recommend it. gears need to be set perfectly. if they aren't, you're going to hear a horrible, loud whining sound and your gears will deteriorate much faster. don't skimp on this install. it's not worth runing the rear or driving aroud with cottonballs in your ears.

It's a standard GM 10-bolt, geesh. If he hasn't done one of those then go somewhere else. Maybe he only works on Ford rears.

imports/bikes are kinda different... most not even RWD...

I'd keep looking imo... I bet 85% of the people that can say they know "gears" have worked on a GM 10-bolt, thats like every RWD car for the last 20-30 years GM ever made...

            so its pretty common.

for the difference in having a pro do it (runs 200-300 bucks) and paying him around the same with no experience, it should be an easy call. Pay a little more for the piece of mind and, possibly, a hassle free job.

i am planning on 4.10(decided against) for around 80 new on ebay. Rebuilt lsd with new shims etc for around 120 on ebay. Install kit for 100 and install for 200 from a gear shop in town that is giving me a deal.

These are prices i see on ebay frequently (lsd is from reputable seller).
