• Trying to decide on a convertor

I'm looking for a streetable converter. I can't decide on PI or Yank and what stall to get. I have no plans to ever run my car, I just want to make it a little more fun as a daily driver. I want more punch off the line, but don't want to be revving too high. I don't want a loose converter and let's keep the STR below 3.0. ;) I want to hear from people with converters and prices, etc...So please help a girl in need.

SLP makes a very streetable converter. It stalls around 2600 rpm and has the lock-up feature that the stock converter has so you can get good highway mileage. I believe it's about 300-500 bucks, but you should check the price on www.slponline.com. I recommend having a B&M transmission cooler installed as well when you put the higher stall converter in, just to be safe and keep the tranny temps down because a higher stall converter tends to make more heat than a lower stall torque converter. Also, you can lower the stall speed of the converter simply by installing taller rear gears since it takes less torque to spin taller gears. If you have 3.08 gears, I'd switch to 3.42's. you'll get 30 mpg highway and 15-20 mpg city.

thanks for playing.. but im going to have to disagree.. ive been told that that converter is a 12 inch converter and our bell housing will only hold a 9.5..
and a 2600 stall is just about useless. if your going to pay to get one get something that will make a differnece.. how about a 3200 PI or a Yank 3000.. remember the SLP one is a yank so why deal with SLP..they are morons and there customer service dept is a joke... so skip that trouble and get a bigger stall...almost all stall converters have the lock up feature unless its massive.. id suggest a 3500 stall from yank..i almost got one a little while back..the you can let me know how well it works
:D

and it says right there in the sig Y87 so that means 3.42's

get a ST 3500 from Yank please..you can be my best friend :D

I'd second the Yank ST3500. Noone is brave enough to go with a 3500 stall. Nothing to worry, it's very streetable. Be a pioneer Whit. :D We'll have a modfest and put both of our converters in.

First off, SLP uses yank converters, but I will still get direct from yank.

I think I may have to disagree about the size of our converters, yank's stealth line is a line of 12" converters made so that you cannot tell the difference between oem & the converter. I could be wrong though, since yank does focus on V8's.

I personally like the super yank. It has a softer launch so you don't have to have a full drag setup, and great efficiency. A lot of mid & upper range power. Simply seems to me that would be a better choice if you don't want to run slicks.

Now, if you want to run slicks and have an all out drag setup, by all means get something that hits hard off the line.
