Hurst Billet Plus - What knob?

Last weekend I installed a Hurst Billet Plus shifter. (thanks 00silver6) It came with the small plastic ball knob that looks cheesy and I wanted to replace it with something leather-wrapped.

The thread size doesn't accept the stock knob, but it does fit a late-model Mustang knob. So I bought a 2003 leather Mustang knob off eBay. I like the shape and looks of it, but it's just a bit too big. I'd like something a bit smaller and shorter.

Anyone recommend a knob to fit?

I was able to make the knob shorter. There was a plastic insert in the base of the knob that prevented it from threading on all the way. After removing it I was able to get it to screw on an extra 1/2" or so.

I like the height better now, but it still seems a bit oversized. Nobody else runs a Hurst shifter that can tell me what kind of knob you use?

I put in a ls1 speed inc short stick on my hurst billet plus.

It accepts factory knob ad the top of the knob is where the base of the hurst stick with hurst knob is.


It was $25 shipped, but I did have to well out the holes a little on the stick with a drill to get it to bolt up.

I'm not sure I'd want the stick any shorter. It's already like 2 inches shorter than stock. Here's a shot with the Mustang knob installed since I removed that insert piece. I'm kinda getting used to the knob now, it just seemed really big after using the small golfball-sized knob for a week. lol [img]smile.gif[/img]

My cuz has a billet knob on his GT
IMO its the perfect size I can try and get the manufacturer for ya if ur interested

I've seen the billet knobs all over eBay, I'm just not sure I want to be grabbing something metal in the winter. [img]smile.gif[/img]

I thought of a billet nob they are a little pricey and they ar ea ***** in the heat, yeah I test drove a mach 1 in the summer, burned my hand to hell.

AS for ls1speed inc short stick... Like I said I had to modify it a little and use the stock hurst bolts...

I like it... feels wierd at first but so did the hurst. And I mean, not gonna get many other short sticks for $19.99

Oh yeah, that long stick came with mine too but it stayed in the box, the one that's installed is way shorter and has a dog-leg in it, just like what's pictured on the box. I also included a picture of it side-by-side with the stock shifter a couple of posts above.

Those sticks feel wierd to me too... [img]smile.gif[/img] I got my shifter used never came with it, but if it matters same place I got my stick they make one angled like that too.


I do like that shifter ball though, its nice.
