  • Gears and LSD

Have some questions about Gears and LSD. Not to familiar with LSD or Gears. Did some searches on LSD and all I found was it makes the tires spin in the same direction.

My question for LSD is what exactly is it?
    Where is it located?
    How to install?
    Where to purchase?

    My queston for Gears are...
If I were to get 4.10 Gears what else is needed?
    How hard to install?

Thanks alot for the help. Just trying to learn a little more about our cars and after reading about gears it got me kind of intrested in mabey getting some.

Thanks 98 for the good info.
I found this package. What do you think?

Is this all I would need to get?

Also, I am in an auto class at my high school. Do you think I could do it on my own in class?

That will work, but you can save a bunch if you shop around. Just make sure you don't already have a limited slip diff before shelling out for one. ;)

The differential install is pretty easy. Since you're installing gears, though, you'll need a shop to do it.

I'm pretty sure I don't have one. I did a burnout once and only left on tire mark. Doesn't that mean I don't have a LSD?
We have a shop in our school and get at least one hour of shop a day to do whatever we want with our cars. Do you think getting this is worth it? This would be my first performance mod.

its definatly worth it but make sure you dont have a LSD first. i understand you only spin one tire but thats not a definate thing. compare your RPO codes that are on the inside of your drivers door to these codes. look up your gears and differential options like a LSD. ;)

just so you know, you wont get that gear and LSD install done in one hours of work at school.

Yeah I didn't plan on getting it done that fast. We have to do so many major repairs within a quarter and I thought this could be a good one. Just had to find out some information first. If it happens won't be until spring because my car is in storage until April 1st :( How long do you think it will take?

Also I read that you have to adjust your speedometer. How hard is this to do on your own?

                Thanks for the help guys!

you can adjust it on your own without some type of calibrator, tuner or some type of diagnosis tool like a Tech 2
