• looking to build 4l60e, suggestions?

I'm looking to build a 4l60e transmission to withstand 450-500 RWTQ. I've heard of this "Super Hoss Kit", yet I can't find one, or what parts in included. TCI has alot of parts, but I have no idea what is needed. I'd like to keep this rebuild under $700 in parts if possible, as I heard the Super Hoss Kit was like $500. I'd like to overbuild the tranny so I have a safe error margin. I have no experience in this kind of thing however. Any suggestions would be welcome.

your not going to attempt the rebuild yourself, are you? you might get parts for that price range, but your not going to get them assembled into a reliable transmission. I can give you the name of the guy that built my tranny locally, or I would suggest www.lt1dave.com
You can at least check out LT1 daves site and see what he is putting into his built trannies that see this kind of power.

FYI - my built tranny ran me 2g's.

and yet you are asking for recommendations for your STOCK car? besides, did you see he stated he wanted to OVERBUILD the tranny as to not destroy it within weeks of putting it in?

Nick - check out this site

my tranny is built to the "700-E Raptor" specs
they list all the components that go into it and sell them separately. Still not sure I would attempt the rebuild myself.

Ellik , I have a couple questions:

how much power can your built tranny take?

what rear end do you plan on running?

How comfortable is the drive of this tranny (hard shifting, etc.)?

I guess you didn't look at the OTHER supporting mods

Mine is rated to about 600HP, which is misleading because of the 450#Tq rating that it has. You could add a torque drive package and boost that up to the 5-600 range. I had a local shop trop the tranny and build it, (now that I have a spot to work) I would order it from the link I posted above and install it myself. Looking over their site, I think I would consider adding the full manual valve body and the torque drive kit on the next one.
Ive already done a complete rebuild on my rear-end (all bearings and shims) with posi and 3.42 gears and have nearly $800 into it so far. At this point I am going to add Moser race hardened axles, TA girdle and disc brakes. If I was to do it again (especially if I had the power you have) because of the money I have into the stock 10-bolt, I would wait until I destroy it and put in a Moser 12 bolt with 3.73 gears. The 12 bolt is going to be about $2000 vs. the $1200 I will have into mine.

If you are hard on the gas from a stop, 1-2 shift is VERY snappy. Light on the gas and it is still hard, but not uncomfortable.

I can answer the drivability question.
I didn't put any new hard parts in my tranny, but I upgraded all the clutches, band, etc, got about $1100 in it. For every day driving, I wouldn't want anything harder than what I have now.
My car makes like no power at all and it will bark 2nd gear all the time. They will usually tell you if it is drivable or not... but its still fun
