The LS1 uses a different bellhousing than the LT1, correct? Would it be possible to put the bellhousing from an LT1 onto a LS1 Transmission and put it in a V6 assuming that we have enough torque to power 6th gear? To make the swap possible pedals from an LS1 as well as the console would need to be used. Would the transmission need a different input shaft? Thanks for any input.

First off all I don't know if you can make it an exact fit with M6. For autos, 97+ have removable bellhousings. You would still need to swap the input housing cause of the input shaft. But on M6s I can't tell you for sure. I don't know if they also came with removable bellhousings since they don't offer them on V6s.

Actually you would want an LT1 T56 it is the same length and bolt pattern as our bellhousings. So no custom driveshaft is needed. Ok, so we would need a LT1 T56 Tranny, Center console for a manual Trans Am, pedals from manual Trans AM, shifter boot, performance shifter, shifter knob, input shaft... What else would be needed for the swap? Thanks

You wouldn't need the console assuming yours is a stick or the boot or the knob. The rest you would. Just an FYI before you purchase anything. I would go to a salvage yard and get some measurements from both bell housings. To my knowledge, GM does not usually use the same bell housings on V6 vs. V8 blocks.
Also get some measurements of the trans mount position. Those brackets will also be different.

OK, I can get the T-56 from an LS1 for very cheap. If I did this I would need to get the bellhousing from an LT1, correct? Ok, first of all lets think here guys. The transmissions would have to be the same length for both LT1, LS1, and all V6 4th gen f-bodies otherwise an aluminum driveshaft wouldn't be interchangeable between everyone's. I would think the T-56 no matter LT1 or LS1 would swap in to ours without much modification.---<br />-\'95 3.4L M5 Camaro

No actually they aren't the same length because of they moved the motor.
