OK, I'm going to pick up the transmission next Monday. It's from an LT1 with 50K miles on it. It's a complete change over kit except for the bellhousing. The guy I'm buying it from thinks that I'll need a flywheel from a T5, but you guys think mine will work. Also, I'm having trouble finding a LT1 bellhousing on ebay, anyone know where I can one?

check the v8 boards I am sure you can pick one up.
what are your plans for hte 6-speed swap with the bellhousing, I have looked inot the many of times and the bellhousing is the problme, you are going to need a custom fabrication, i looked ot the 3rd gen guys that have swapped there T5s to T56s, and found some stuff which I lost but the bellhousing is going to be your problem.
evcerything else should work. just remeber if you get acustom bellhousing made its going to have ot be exaclty the same size as the stock v8 one so you do not have problems with the imput shaft and clutch reach.

so you'll have 4.11s in the rear, but it will ride like 3.23s due to the different ratio. why would you want to do that? your launches will be like that of 3.23s, no different. i don't understand what you are trying to accomplish here.
if you really wanted to get the most out of the 6spd transmission, you could always do the right thing and find one from a 1993 Z28 or T/A.
why? cause in 1993 they offered two t56's. one in a performance arrangement with a 2.66 first gear, and one in a standard arrangement, with a 3.55 first gear. hrm...3.55 is a lot closer to 3.75 isnt it? (thats the first gear in the t5)
if you went with a 1993 T56 from a LT1 car (F-body) you wouldnt have as many issues with gears and such. still the same mounting wise tho...
it has a little section on my trans swap. you would need a new flywheel btw. as far as swapping in a t56...not sure, i wanted to do that myself but meh.

This is only on LS1 cars, all LT1 transmissions have essentially zero computer controls.
You will need to use a T5 flywheel, otherwise your engine will be improperly balanced.
That's a partially good answer about the 93 Trans... however, I think I'd go with the other 93 T56 (M29 option) Tranny. Here's a comparison of the T5 (MM5) tranny and the T56 (M29) tranny.
Here's some more data assuming a 3.23 Rear Diff gear:
Shifting from 1st to 2nd in T5: 38 MPH into 2nd at 3500 RPMs
Shifting from 1st to 2nd in T56: 48 MPH into 2nd at 4150 RPMs
Shifting from 2nd to 3rd in T5: 65 MPH into 3rd at 3800 RPMs
Shifting from 2nd to 3rd in T56: 68 MPH into 3rd at 4050 RPMs
Shifting at 5900 RPM's with the T56 would put ya just at peak torque at each shift! :D I don't believe 1st gear would be too much of a bog either.
Cruising at 75 MPH in the T5 in 5th puts ya at 2300 RPM's.
Cruising at 75 MPH in the T56 in 6th would put ya at 1950 RPM's. :D

I have a lot of information on this if you need it. I spoke with the people at Spohn and they have a setup too. It is a Viper transmission with modified input shat and everything you will need. The only thing that will have to be custom made is the tranny crossmember. I THINK that the crossmember from a 98+ z28 or SS will work though...maybe with a little modification. This kit also come with the shortened driveshaft.

If your getting into all of this custom stuff, why not just get a Richmond Overdrive 6-speed transmission from Summit? Available in a lot of different gear combinations, various bellhousing bolt patterns, and it can handle 450+ ft.lbs of torque. Around 3k for the transmission, (includes shifter) you should be able to unbolt the t5 bellhousing, use your stock clutch, bolt the bellhousing to the Richmond, line everything back up, connect the reverse light and backup switch, and throw it back in- may also need an LS1 crossmember, no big deal. You should also be able to use a stock driveshaft. If I had the money, I would try it right now. I think I remember reading a magazine article where someone put the Ford version (same tranny, different input shaft) in a mustang with a T5, the dimentions of the tranny were the same and it just bolted in. Couldnt be that much harder on our cars.
Hell, I'd rather pay 3k for a new, beefy transmission and toss it in, than pay nearly 1k or more for a used T56 that required mad fab to make it work. My 2 pennies.
