  • Shifting issues.

I recently purchased a 2000 firebird. Manual 3.8; forgive me for being a newbie with these questions. I have driven many manuals in my life so I know that this is not a user error issue. (lol) The problem I am having is that when I put the clutch in and shift into first, 40% of the time it sticks a bit going in. I also get the problem in 3rd gear but not as bad, just a little catch. 5th gear and reverse however have issues. When I put it in 5th I get a light grind just about every time I put it in. Reverse is the same except the grind is even worse. Is this a clutch issue or what? Supposedly I still have warranty left so I am hoping it is still covered but I don't know. Any help would be much appreciated.

For reverse it happens to a lot of us with manuals. To prevent it many go to 3rd gear and then reverse or 5th and then reverse. But you shouldn't be having those problems with the other gears. I would get it checked out since you still have warranty.
