  • gear break in question

I just got my 3.42's installed and I would like to know how long (miles) before I can start gunning it again.

i just read about this yesterday. i believe you have to keep the first few trips down to about 10 miles so it heats up then let it cool for 30 min. and drive like a grandma for the first 500 miles. someone else chime in here.

What he said above. Definatley the first 3 trips or so just drive enough to completely heat the gears up, then let them completely cool down. Be easy on the gears for the first 500 mi. or so and then after you should be good to go.

Im gonna baby it for around 800-1000 miles, I dont wanna risk anything. Ill probaly take alot of road trips, and ask my mom if we need anything from the store every 20 minutes lol.

If in emergency you have to get on the throttle hard it should be fine. All the break in period really does is sets a good wear pattern in the teeth of the ring and pinion so that there is minimal gear noise.
