  • drivetrain whine?

After my car gets heated up and especially after a "spirited" drive at slow speeds i can hear a constant whine coming somewhere from my driveline. I know its not my rear end because it did this before i intalled the 3.73s and LSD. also in neutral, whenever i rev it, the whine increases with engine speed? what could be causing this?

    thanks alot

maybe the alternator...? The best way to find out is wait 'till the wine comes back and have someone rev it for you as you are trying to locate it (as it's still in neutral, of course).

Does it shift harder than normal after it starts whining?

        no...it shifts normally
im kinda worried that it may be the tranny however it shifts fine and never pops back out of gear or anything

i replaced my alternator not too long ago...how quick do these wear out?

It could just be your power steering pump... they can whine pretty loud.

my RX-7's throwout bearing whines when the clutch is engaged, when not it gear. That could very well be it.

i hope not.....even when the clutch is not engaged in neutral it still whines.

the more i think about it, it could very well be the power steering pump because on cold mornings, it is very hard to turn the wheels until it warms up and it is also very loud
