93-97 used the Auburn carrier, which could be either 2 or 3 series.
Auto came with 2.73 standard and 3.23 optional, so it would have one or the other.
Manuals all came with 3.42 though, so if it's a stick it's 3-series.1994 Firebird 3.4<br />15.65 @ 86.8<br /><a href=\"http://www.funkz.net/firebird.htm\" target=\"_blank\">funkz.net/firebird</a><br /><a href=\"http://mywebpages.comcast.net/funkz/timeslips.htm\" target=\"_blank\">Timeslips</a>

Funk Z,
"Manuals all came with 3.42 though, so if it's a stick it's 3-series"
-This is a common myth. Not all manuals came with 3.42's. When purchasing my rear end this past fall, the 95 Z28 Six-speed manual ended up actually having 2.73's. By the way this board always reads, everyone always says that manual Z's ALWAYS have 3.42's, so thats what i thought i was getting. MY advice, check the door/glove box codes no matter what!!!!!! You are always best to check yourself, and never guess. GU2 means 2.73's. In my case i found this out just in time. It's easy, just look in the glove box, the little white chart is in alphabetical order, see what "G" codes it has. btw GU80 means its a posi.

Also, 2.73's mean that its a series 2. Anything under 3.23's is a series 2 carrier, not 3. A series 2 carrier just requires a thicker gear, (known as a series 2 or "thick" gear) or a $40 spacer to adapt a series 3 gear to fit. Series 2 gears are usually more costly, and are less likely to be found used. watch ebay, i did find series 2 richmond gears for 90.00. hope this helps

Also I agree with you...My friend has a '93 TA 6-speed with the close ratio tranny and 3.23's.
