  • I think I have slippage (on top of other problems)

I not for sure, but I think that my car is slipping in 1st gear. I go WOT and the car will seem to be fine up to 3500 RPM and then it just shoots up to 56-5800 RPM and the car goes no faster, like it was just put into Neutral.

I'm not completely sure, and I have checked the archives, just need to know what is wrong and what I have to do to fix it. Don't know whether or not it just needs more fluid or I need to have something fixed??

BTW I did just recently change the tranny fluid and checked it several times, the level of the fluid seems to be right.

    manual or auto?

If its a manual get up to speed in 5th gear (~50MPH) then stomp on the gas and watch what happens. If your engine just revs up and you don't accelerate at all, you most likely need a new clutch.

don't know what slippage feels like in an auto.

      Its an auto.

It seems to get up to speed if I don't give it much throtle, but as soon as I step on it, it jerks then catches the gear, or it will just rev up and not accelerate.

That sounds like a slipping transmission

Do this, speed up to 40 mph, then coast back down to 10 mph, then SLAM the gas

If your engine revs to all getout and then *BANG* it shifts really hard, that is definitely a slipping transmission. Mine felt like it was going to fall out a couple times before it was fixed

Another sign is an abnormally long (1 second or more) shift time

Damn...I know for a fact now that it is slipping. :(

It does that all the time, takes about a full second to shift from first to second.
