        Exactly.

I'm not sure what your question is really. The Fbodies didn't have 5 speed autos because General Motors didn't have any five speed units to put in them.

(This isn't completely true, they used to make transmisions for BMW of which there was at least one 5 speed model, but they never offered it in any of their own cars.)

its not just f-bodies, just in general. why arent there 5 speed autos out there? cruising on the highway at 2500 RPMs would be alot better if it was 1200-1500 RPMs instead, no? is it due to the limitations of the design of the automatic transmission?

              from the cadillac site:

Transmission, Hydra-Matic, 5-speed automatic with overdrive 5th gear and electronically controlled shifts with Driver Shift Control

so its a 4-speed with overdrive? thats what everyone has?

Because a 5 speed automatic is expensive. That's about the easiest answer there can be.

The 4L60E is the workhorse of the general motors fleet. They figure if you want performance, you'll get a stick and save a little money.

Remember, the 4 speed auto is already more expensive than the 5 speed manual.

yeah, but the 4L60E is a dang good auto though, especially compared to ford autos (eegh)

If you could put that on a 4L60E you would have an 8 speed.

The Jaguar XK8 also has a 5-speed auto.

A lot of high-priced cars have 5 speed auto - or at least an option of one. Quite a few available in European Executive market.
