  • switching my gears

did some searching and found out theres other crap i need other than the 3.42 and LSD..
I have a 2000, with ABS AND TCS, and i am going from 3.08 to 3.42.
something about a 2 to 3 series carrier, and tcs reluctor ring... correct? help me out here. thanks

Since you're switching from a 2-series to a 3-series carrier, you need a new ABS Reluctor Ring. http://www.slponline.com/view_product.asp?P=26029

TCS has nothing to do with swapping carrier and gears, only if you're swapping rear ends. You won't be messing with the TCS stuff. ;)

ahh thats what it was. because i was thinking of a rear end instead of the gears/lsd.. i hear the rear ends are cheaper plus you get disc brakes... but i havent found one below $400.. still not sure if its cheaper to go with that or the gears/lsd. id have to pay for install for both. which way would be cheapest?

            You already have disc brakes.

You'll have to pay for the install of the gears, but not really for the lsd. They would have to take out the diff and put the new gears on it anyways, so it doesn't make any difference if they install it on new one or the old one.

There's really no reason to swap rear ends on your car. It would only cost more to do it that way.

(grr whats wrong with these /img tags...)

i thought drums rusted on the middle, and discs rusted on the disc

that's definitely a disc brake, my friend. 4 wheel discs were standard after '98.

Those are most definetly disc brakes. Here's some pics of drum brakes from other cars:

                      Just buy a Torsen from a V8 F-Body.

                      For example:

                      http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...sPageName=WDVW

FWIW, we have a 28 spline, 7.5"/7.625", 10 bolt axle.

^ is that first differential listed on ebay a 2 series or 3 series differential, also would it work with 3.42 gears and accept a abs relocater ring? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...MakeTrack=true

It's a 3-series. Would work with 3.42s and the ABS reluctor ring.
