I really want to switch my car to a manual T-56. I was searching the forum and found that some people have wanted to do this before. I saw alot of talk about doing it but no definitive answers. Has anyone done this yet and if so how hard / expensive was it?

300-350 ftlbs pretty easy...mine will be a little bit more as it has a new SPEC Stage 3 in it, as well as a few upgraded internal parts. I helps my 100 shot just fine. Seriously, if you wanted to go that route, I'm down like a brown cow. TSP is right here as well, so you could have it dyno tuned while you're here...I have access to a big shop with plenty of room to do the swap.www.fullthrottlev6.com THE SOURCE!

nobody's done it yet because (at least in an estimation stage) the cost has exceeded the benefit. even a junked T56 is twice the cost of a junked T5, then there are custom lines, computer controls, bellhousing, mounts, etc. to be fabricated.
your A4 will hold more than a T5, and probably a T56 (with dollar to dollar modification).

The reason I want a manual is because I'm going to move from drag racing to autocrossing and the manual obviously has its advantages for the curves. Can a built T5 take 450-500 HP? If so, how much would that cost and what parts would it entail. I would prolly also send the parts out for cyro-treatment.
OneQuickV6 - I am interested if the T5 can be built to handle my power needs, but I'd have to drive 1500 miles to get there and 1500 back from western PA. How much time would the swap take?2001 Pewder Firebird V6 A4
Custom Turbo Kit Details On Site
http://www.cardomain.com/id/njp98
Best 1/4 time NA - 15.224 seconds @ 87.55 MPH

I'm going to be building my engine (pistons, rods, etc.) for around 450HP or so with my current turbo setup 450HP is about the limit of the turbo effiency.
What Autocross requires that, none that I will participate in, I'm still going to be draging, but I want the fun/utility of the manual for everyday and autoX use and even though its slower than a auto at the strip I'd like to be able to run a low 12 without having to sacrifice anything (for weight or drivabiliy). With a built auto the 1-2 shift would be a neckjerker on the street if I had it built for 500HP.
Can the mustang T5 be used with any form of adaptor for our cars or what other manual 5 or 6 speed could be built to handle that power and also fit our cars without being a PITA. Doesn't Project Viper run a T5 with a SPEC5 clutch that can handle 500HP? What did he use? I would even consider cyroing the tranny if I had to.
I'm open to anything that can fill that void, just hoping I don't have to sell a kidney to pay for it.2001 Pewder Firebird V6 A4
Custom Turbo Kit Details On Site
http://www.cardomain.com/id/njp98
Best 1/4 time NA - 15.224 seconds @ 87.55 MPH

The T-5 can be built to handle 450-500 hp, but in your application, I dont think you'll have too many problems with it. In drag racing the launch is what is very hard on the drivetrain, especially with sticky tires. In autocross there probably isnt near as much shock. It'll be ok I bet.Black 1998 Pontiac Firebird A-4 swap
271.4rwhp/259.4rwtq NA
13.30@102.44
www.freewebs.com/wickedsix98
