• tranny rebuild need advice

well i am starting to rebuild my tranny this week. I have read and read and read so dont think i havent searched. But i am wanting to know what would be the best parts to use in the rebuild. I will be running a 2800 stall tc and i was wanting to build it pretty bullet proof. It has 132k miles on it, i know the cluthc packs and a new valve body is necessary. Can anyone who has done thise please give me a list of what parts i need and where i can get them. i am starting from and empty case. thanks for help in advance and you can send it to my email if you would like. jlammon@knology.net

If you are not going to put any serious power through it, you don't need to upgrade any hard parts. Just get a tranny rebuild kit with new clutches, make sure to get Kolene steels, get a new band, washing, etc, you'll need a new torque converter.... and synthetic fluid

if you are going with a higher stall, really do it. Plan the converter for around 700ish rpm below peak torque. I run a 3000, glad I didnt go smaller than that. Call Andre @ www.edgeracingconverters.com and he'll help you size and custom build one for you.

Don't go cheap when it comes to your tranny. Get the red eagle rebuild kit. A good kevlar 2-4 band is a must. Get ready for a bit of punching walls and swearing, it's not hard, just tedious. If I can do it, you can. Lable EVERYTHING you take off in bags. Also a shift kit, and some good servos never hurt. Let me know how it turns out, and feel free to email me if you get stuck.

Make sure you get KOLENE STEELS... they are the best you can get. I think I got Red Eagle or the "blue plate special" clutches... I can't remember now.

And about the band, that site I linked you says, "(We recommend this band over the above #11 band because the wide band must be used with a new reverse input drum otherwise the band will burn on the two outer edges.)"

However, I bought a wide band and a stock replacement just incase the wide band didn't work and I did not have any problems.
