  • Difference in clutch materials?

Whats the difference in the clutch materials? I have seen: Kevlar, Organic, Carbon Disk, and Ceramic. What are the differences? Longevity? Grip ability?

Also, what would be the likelyness of needing the throw out bearing and pilot bearing on a car with roughly 10,000 miles? Im already getting slippage out of my clutch, so im looking to score a new one in the next two weeks. Thanks.

Btw, anyone have experience with the SPEC STAR clutches? I want to get the Stage 3 for its agressive nature. Thanks!

I have always been taught you ALWAYS replace the pilot and throwout bearings when replacing a clutch..

I have a Centerforce in my car now, but just ordered a SPEC Stage 3 because I am a distributor for them and it's time for a new clutch. The SPEC Stage 3 is supposed to hold around 600-700 Hp so I am pretty sure that we will be fine with that one. We put a SPEC Stage 4 disc with a Katech pressure plate in our C5 and it's doing awesome. If you would like prices on the SPEC clutched, drop me a line sometime.

I have a Spec Stage II, its pretty good, I used to be able to chirp second with my old tires, but now I can't with my new G-Force T/As. I have no problems peeling first and don't really see any slipping.

If I could go back I think I would get the stage III but he stage II is supposed to be their longest lasting clutch.

When I changed it out I had my mechanic do the slave cylinder, as well as the throw out bearing which was included with the cluth along with a little installation tool.

Its not really a warranty issue for me. If it needs replacing no point in putting the same junk back in there...

You think it would be worth while to also do the slave cylinder mod, the one where you drill out the restriction in the line?

not to be saying you don't know what you are talking about but are you sure that wasn't the pilot bearing that was changed out?? usually the pilot bearing comes with a complete clutch kit (clutch, pressure plate, pilot bearing and that little tool)..

The SPEC clutches include the clutch disc, pressure plate, throwout bearing and clutch lineup tool. The Pilot bushing is available upon request only.

                  Exactly

If you want more detailed info, you can email Dave at starclutch@mindspring.com for any questions.

The customer service at SPEC is incredible, Dave was very knowledgeable and went out of his way to answer all of my questions in depth. I ordered my clutch directly through him and it was at my door in 2 days. The clutch was packaged very nice and looked awsome. I would recommend this company to anyone.
