Allright, so here lately my differential has been acting up and it's only a matter of time till it craps out. The question I have is about the traction control obviously. I've got traction control on my car (ASR), ABS obviously, and 3.42s. I've found a Zexel Torsen differential new for 120 bucks and it's a 3 series carrier so it'll work with my gears. My question is: what determines if it will work with traction control? I've seen several different places about rear ends not working with Traction control cars, but that was for the whole rear end assembly. So, when I buy a new carrier (differential), do I have to worry about traction control and ABS? I'm new to the whole rear gear stuff, so go easy on me.

You have to worry about traction controle when you swap the whole rear end, but if your just doing the differential then you have to get an ABS reluctor ring from SLP

Why do I need a reluctor ring, I thought that was only when you were stepping up from a 2 series carrier to a 3 series? I've got 3.42s with LSD and I'm gonna keep it that way. It's just that my differential is on it's way out.~Chris
1999 Hugger Orange Camaro
http://www.cardomain.com/ride/273836

†…faith…hope

GM part # for the reluctor ring is 26029185, $26.99 from a dealer.
According to my parts manual, a rear end with traction control does not use the ABS Reluctor Ring. Additionally, if you already have 3.23s or greater you can reuse the current one (if you need it).
You can get a takeoff Torsen unit and use it with your TCS rear with no problem. The diff itself is the same.Matt

Thanks, what parts manual do you have? I need to get a new one. I lost my Haynes Manual, so I don't know if there's even any helpful information in there.~Chris
1999 Hugger Orange Camaro
http://www.cardomain.com/ride/273836

†…faith…hope

Beautiful, I appreciate the manuals Matt, I downloaded a few of em. So, all I need to do is buy the new diff, and I'm pretty much set to get it installed? Don't have to worry about traction control or ABS?~Chris
1999 Hugger Orange Camaro
http://www.cardomain.com/ride/273836

†…faith…hope

Yeah, I'm pretty sure it's just the diff. I had a post on here a few weeks back,
http://www.camarov6.com/ubb/ultimate...725;p=1#000000
and didn't find much help. Pretty much the car started lighting up the right rear tire around sharp right hand turns, but pulled out fine around left hand turns. If the right rear tire is in wet leaves or somethin else slick my Low Trac light kicks on. I can still pull a 2 wheel burnout in a straight line. Here lately, I'm starting to get a sound in the rear of the car around left hand turns, it sounds kinda like a warped rotor, but it's not. After not finding any help over here I went to LS1Tech.com and found a guy with the exact same symptoms. Here:
http://www.ls1tech.com/forums/showthread.php?t=260954
A few days later, he was down to 1 wheel burnouts in a straight line. Every person there told him the differential was on it's way out and to just replace it. Mine hasn't completely died yet, but I'm trying to find everything now before it does.~Chris
1999 Hugger Orange Camaro
http://www.cardomain.com/ride/273836

†…faith…hope
