That TCS button might also be the reason why I can't powerbrake.

Are you sure you have a TCS button? I dont think any v6s, i may be wrong, came with TCS. Or are you refferring to your SGS as TCS?

No, actual TCS was offered on 01 and up V6's. It operates on the same principle as ASR and TCS in their big brothers... ie the computer reduces throttle and/or applies the rear brakes to slow the rear wheels.

Don't beleive me, it's option code NW9 on the Firebird/Camaro, just like on the Formula/Z28. Also, looking over the options, I don't see SGS anywhere, which is good, cause SGS is dumb (at least compared to TCS).

I only flip my SGS on when my wife's going to drive it. It keeps her out of trouble. With these 3:73's and my posi it get's sideway's pretty quick.

Yeah, SGS would be bad to be driving around in...

And the reason it feels like its "holding back" when going 70mph in 3rd gear is that you're essentially engine braking.

I am sure it's the TCS button I have. It's right in front of my shifter above my ashtray/lighter. I turned it off, but it turns itself back on after a few minutes.

I believe you but you're at least a year off. I have a 2000 and DO have the code NW9 on my door. I'm not sure of the SGS and TCS differences though.

yes. around town when i'm going 40 or below. excessive shifting into 4th (OD) causes excessive wear on the clutches/bands for the OD clutch pack in the trans. i shift into OD (4th or D on the birds) when cruising over 40.

I think it is indeed possible that I am a year off... The reason that I said '01 and up is because I only could verify it for '01 and up, and because when I was shopping for my '00, the salesman said the V6's didn't have TCS, only second gear start (It was funny how this came up, I was asking if they had any on the lot with a Limited Slip Differential, and he thought I meant traction control )

I too have a 2000 and i too have the TCS button. My dads 99 has an SGS button...so i think it changes between 99 and 2000.

I turned the TCS button and tried it in 3rd gear at around 50mph . It still feels the same(slower). When I put it back in drive, you can feel it kick in. Also, the TCS button turns itself back on after several minutes.

I have a question concerning the D and OD selection. If I am driving around in D, and the transmission is actually in 3rd, and then I shift to OD without changing speed, the engine RPM drops nearly 400 rpm. I know I am still in 3rd because there is another shift when I reach 45mph. I assumed this was the torque converter locking up when shifted into OD. Is this assumption correct? The heat generated from the extra slippage in the converter would also increase transmission temps when not driving in OD. I don't see much of a performance advantage here since the converter will unlock when enough throttle is applied; I just wanted to find if my converter lockup assumption was correct :D
