D with the square around it allows the car to shift into overdrive. Overdrive is 4th gear. It's simply a gear with a larger ratio than 1:1.

So will it hurt my transmission If I use it for every day driving?

!!!!DOUBLE POST!!!!lol no, its actually better to use for everyday driving, it kinda acts like a 5th gear so its more gas efficient and helps keep RPMs low= longer lasting transmission

A quick read of the relevant section of the owners manual would have given you the answer. The owners manual is worth a read.

According, to it you should drive in the D with the square around (as mentioned above allows the car to shift into overdrive when it can.) The other D is for high load situations such as towing.

Overdrive is 4th gear. It's nothing magical that kicks in and lowers rpms (ie, TC locking up), it just shifts gears. Cruising in 3rd gear in an M5 and want lower RPMs? Shift to 4th. Same thing. It's called overdrive because the gear ratio is taller than 1:1.

That does nothing for you. Your car won't shift into OD when it doesn't need it.

You will find your time is the same whether you are in D or D with a square.
