• changed my trans fluid !!!!!

well i changed it today and it had a brown tint to it. the magnet at the bottom of the pan had a thick coat of metal dust around it. my car has 63,000 miles on it, does this sound about right?

Yep, tranny fluid gets dirty just like everything else. Did you replace the filter and pan gasket too? And of course make sure you clean all that crap out of the pan/off the magnets.

I'm thinking of doing this soon. I'm almost at 60k miles. What all did u need to complete the job? Fluid, gaskets, tools, etc.. And how long did it take?

Oh, and did you go to synthetic fluid?

yep, changed both the filter and the gasket. I cleaned everything before i put it back on too.
I had a huge problem getting the o-seal off but after that it wasnt bad.

no i didnt use the synthetic fluid because you have to flush the whole system to change it out. the whole job took about 2 hours beacause of that damn o-ring seal thing.

just changed my fluid this weekend. the following works well. pry at the edge of the seal (its less an o-ring--more like a seal) and curl it inward. now, treat it like a freeze plug. tap on the curled portion (gently!) with a screwdriver and hammer. the seal should turn sideways and you can slip it out. drive the new seal in with a socket until its flush.

how critical is it to replace the seal? considering how tight that filter fit into either you could probably skip it every other time.

synthetic is bad for our trannies supposedly, causes slippage....
