Yep, tranny fluid gets dirty just like everything else. Did you replace the filter and pan gasket too? And of course make sure you clean all that crap out of the pan/off the magnets. -James

\'96 3.8L A4 Camaro (SOLD)

yep, changed both the filter and the gasket. I cleaned everything before i put it back on too.
I had a huge problem getting the o-seal off but after that it wasnt bad.http://www.geocities.com/atg284

1996 Black RS
3.8L --V6 -- A4
y87 performance package--flowmaster--SLP CAI--fan switch--3.42 gears--nos 5175
http://camaroz28.cardomain.com/id/theforgottenfbod

no i didnt use the synthetic fluid because you have to flush the whole system to change it out. the whole job took about 2 hours beacause of that damn o-ring seal thing.http://www.geocities.com/atg284

1996 Black RS
3.8L --V6 -- A4
y87 performance package--flowmaster--SLP CAI--fan switch--3.42 gears--nos 5175
http://camaroz28.cardomain.com/id/theforgottenfbod

just changed my fluid this weekend. the following works well. pry at the edge of the seal (its less an o-ring--more like a seal) and curl it inward. now, treat it like a freeze plug. tap on the curled portion (gently!) with a screwdriver and hammer. the seal should turn sideways and you can slip it out. drive the new seal in with a socket until its flush.
how critical is it to replace the seal? considering how tight that filter fit into either you could probably skip it every other time.

synthetic is bad for our trannies supposedly, causes slippage....2000 A4 BMS Firebird
MTI Clear Lid & Green Filter, BMR Boxed SFCs
SLP Ram-Air HO Hood, Corsa w/the bling bling tips, KVR Pads
Red Painted Calipers, BMR PHR
BMR LCA\'S, Hooker Longtubes and coated Y
Taylor Thundervolt Wires & NGK PLUGS
15\" Weld Prostars & Skinnies ;)
SLP Fan Switch/160 Thermo
Yank 3600 Extreme Converter
SPI1 Cam and 918s, 772s, and comp hardened pushrods, Shaner\'s S2 TB
