  • Only one tire Burnes out :(

Im so sick of just burning the crap out of one tire.

How hard is it to get a rear end differential?
    Any power gains from it?
    How expensive is it?

You can get one from SLP for $99 and it's extemely easy to install. You won't gain any power from it you'll gain traction, it's helps off the line and in hard turns the car will keep going even with the inside tire breaking loose, but if both break you get sideways fast.

So is this a good thing or not?
should I just be happy with it as it is?

Yes this is an excellent mod. Posi I dont think for cars has ever been a bad mod. I know SLP has them for $99 which is not bad at all.

Now my question is how exactly do you install them? If they are super easy, I am assuming there shouldn't or wouldn't be any problems? I think out of all the car things there is to do, the differential (for me) is one of the most "SCARED TO FUTZ WITH" sorry bout the caps.

I was just wondering what is needed to install one of these units. My rear end is in need of some service and this should give it the right time to service it.

Please let me know, or us know what there is to do to put the SLP $99 posi unit in.

I know there a couple sites on the web with how to's.(will check and post later) I think installuniversity.com has one but I'm not sure. I even think there is one on this site in one of the tech sections.

it's not that hard to put in. me and a friend of mine put it in my car this past weekend. It took us a while to do it, becuase we had difficulties getting the abs relucter ring and ring gear off the old differential, but once we figured it out, they came off easily. To do it you'll need the differential, new gear oil, limited slip additive, and a new gasket. not that hard of an install, if we had to do it again, we could do it in about 1 1/2 hours. heres a LINK to the install directions. my car certainly feels much quicker off the line, but since it's winter i havn't been able to take it to the track to verify. let me know if you have any questions.

ProjectRS, while you're at it you might want to think about swapping your gears. Since you're going to have the carrier out, you might as well slap in some new gears if you want. If you have 3:42's I wouldn't wory about it but if yours has 3:08's it's a good idea. It'll make a huge difference. I had 3:08's on mine originally. I also went with an Auburn Posi though.

Hummh, sounds like a good idea.

How do I know what gears I have? My car is a 95 3.4 Auto.

Would it be better or cheeper if I jsut did a rear end swap?

ALL 3.4L f-bodies, wether Auto or Manual, from 1993-1995, came with 3.23 gearing in the rear end. similar gearing is offered as an option in the current 2002 SS camaro. at least it was when i last went and "built" a car...(checked pricing)

                              -R

Edit: o yea -- i went with an auburn Posi when i installed one (i had already bought it a while ago) - anyway, its like night and day doing burnouts. dont even hit watter if you dont wanna get a little v8 action going..

                              also accelerates faster...go for it!
