Hello,

I really need everyone serous input on this, mods im sorry if i should have put this in drivetrain.

ok project "Viper" is under way, but the owner is running short on cash. i need the clutch (450) and the LSD.

LSD is the problem, does any one know any one shattering the Zexel??????

I was going to get a EATON cuase i know there stong but with plane ticket prices ($1600 ) im not so sure i can get it for the $329 plus the install kit. the $99 Zexel and install kit would be much better....

please give me your input, and don't forget i'm going for HP number that are still "imposible"

    thanks for all the replies!!!!

modified LS1 z28's don't usually break the zexel, I don't think you need to worry about it. A lot of the cars in GMHTP have a stock rear end and they put down 500 rwtq.

If u want to put down some nice numbers just buy a z28 Rear. Thats what i have sitting in my garage. Rebuild it and u have posi, gears, disk brakes all in one package. Cant beat it man

May 2004 chevy high performance did an article on bulletproofing a 7.5" rear. they rated it at 400hp. The way I see it you could destroy 3 or 4 zexels for the price of an auburn or eaton, and if you chew up that many you know you need more.
I would definately pick up the mag and atleast read that article if you have some wuestions.

I think you can last on the zexel.. mine has been doing great so far carrying a 3.73 gear through 373 rwhp (heh.. same number.. that's kinda cool). It's held up to MANY low 1.6 60's. When rebuilding the rear, you definately need to make sure you replace the bearing cap bolts with STUDS. I think that's the only thing that's holding mine together at the moment.

Alot of it depends on which tranny you have. A4's are alot easier on the 7.5" and can go alot futher on the Zexel-Torsen unit. I have seen 250hp LT1 cars break the Take-off Torsen LSD's (6 speeds), due to the fact that a high RPM clutch dump is ALOT harder on that thing that any auto launch you throw at it.

go zexel for the time beaing.. save the money.. upgrade if/when you break it..

but i dont think it will be an issue..

however alot of that depends on your gear size and tire combo..

but the more i think about it.. you will probably be having bigger issies with the t5 before you will need to worry about the rear end..

I swear.. i would kill for a t56 right about now.. I may start working on a project to adapt that.. that tranny is solid as hell.. and if you ca get the belhousing to work out you may be able to run a z28 clutch wich would be MONEY.. much larger disk..

well the M5 and the stage 5 SPEC clutch..... i dont think i will ever buy drag tires becuase i dont do it that often to be worth the money, unlees i get stationed near a track in 2005 i wont be draging much,,,,, i am however geting really good tires, good years new tires, the have really good wet/dry traction and "act as a drag tire. DS-3 is the tir i think.....
