I went through 3 of the cheap LSD units in 3 years.
Shirl may have seen 1.6's only once or twice on the stock LSD unit but after countless passes w/ 1.6's and 1.7's it will toast easily.
I have OVER 1000 passes on the bird.
If you have the money save for the good one, trust me
I am currently running a locker rear Race car - gone but not forgotten - 1997 firebird V6

i don't plan on 1000 plus passes, just to get a time for my bild up and once in a while on a weekend if i have nothing to do...... then, 500 HP at the wheels has to be hard on it umm the only thing is, if i save for the better one i WILL NOT HAVE it for the track after my biuld up and i think it will really hurt my numbers.... lol
could you image me posting like 11.5 with a open diffy i know NOT liklywww.turbov6camaro.com

If you are planning on "impossible" numbers at the moment, or in the 600 range, screw the Z28 axle too. Start saving, and get the ford 8.8" or a 12 bolt. Anything above 500 will toast the tranny/axle in a little while./....1996 Camaro, Built Motor(L/C,Cam, Ported), T66 FFF Kit, N20, 36 lb. If you get the Eaton with stock axles with the horsepower you are planning to have. You will snap the axles quickly. A buddy of mine with an LS-1 and an M6 snapped the stock axles with a high rev launch. He was only dynoing 330 rwhp. So if you're going to do the Eaton and hardened axles to compensate you will be better off with a 12 bolt.2000 Firebird. You can get Moser Competition axles for like $300 through summit racing. You's still have the 28-spline setup, but a bit stronger than the stockers and not the investment of a 12-bolt. You might want to call Moser and ask them what #'s their 28 spline axles can stand up to. My axle shafts are worn a bit and thats what Im replacing them with.\'01 Mineral Grey SVT Cobra<br />-former F-body owner
