  • Help With New GEARS

OK I tryed a search but couldnt find exactly what I needed...What else do i need to buy besides the actual gears (http://texas-speed.com/item_detail.asp?ProductID=85) to put some 3.42's in my camaro??

PS: I am probably going to have them installed because i think this installation is a little out of my league. Also does anyone know about how much it costs for installation???

If you already have the gears, you will probably just need the installation kit ( I used tha ratech complete kit). You'll also need a reluctator ring to keep your ABS active. Are you putting in an LSD also? You really should if you have the extra $99 for it because it makes a huge difference in your launch (open diffy sucks).
You're in maryland, give f-body central a call. They do gear installs for $175.

easy? no, recalibrating units have such mixed reviews. best is to use that same money and put into computer programming and get it taken care of that way. I think in the end Websters was doing the 3.4's, right?

Just take your car to the dealership and have your car reflashed with the VIN of a car with 3.42's it's that easy. 3.73's are a different matter.. HPP3 or a Jet SCU, and SLP has a speedo recalibrator

I don't see if you have a M5 or automatic. If you have an automatic your shift points will be off. Yes, you will need to get your speedo recalibrated.

If you have an A4 make sure you have some programming of some sort set up to fix your shift points. I just had my gears swapped to 3.42's and the car was fine for a week. Now the computer is holding back power because it is all confused and freaking out or something. I am actually a lot slower right now. I did a search and found a thread where someone else mentioned that their automatic was slower until they got it reprogrammed. Options for programming are Westers custom programming, getting a VIN from a car with the Y87 option and have a dealer flash it, or buy a PCM from a car with the Y87 option. Don't think they make a hypertech for your 97. I know they don't for my 99.

I ordered the Westers custom programming, but it has been almost 4 weeks and I haven't received it yet.

You should also get a limited slip differential, an ABS reluctor ring, and full install kit. I paid $362 for my install.

Here is a thread where I posted some part numbers of the parts you need:

You may also want to check the for sale section. That is were I got my gears, LSD, reluctor ring, and install kit.
