• Reluctor Ring for 02 firebird ?????

Today I called the dealer to order the reluctor ring so I can finally get the gears installed but they had no idea what i was talking about. They mentioned something about my car having an electronic sytem or something like that and that it might not need that part.
Is there any other name for it or is it that the late models don't need that ring?
Thanks for any help,

It seems like my car definately needs that ring.
I am trying to buy it at the dealer though because we are planing on doing the installation this weekend and if I order it online it will take a week before it gets here.
Maybe I can print that photo of the ring and bring it to the dealer. That way they will know what i am talking about.

The GM Part # for it is 26029185. Maybe try asking them for that part.

Yeah, your car needs the reluctor ring. If you do not have a reluctor ring. Then you will no longer have ABS brakes. Trust me I know. When I installed my LSD I broke my old reluctor ring, tring to install it on the LSD. I then had to buy another one from my local dealership. They did not know at first what I was needing, but after I explained to them where it was located they was like, ohh ok. Yeah we can order that for you. It was around $22 or so. Also, while I was waiting to find a good weekend to install the new reluctor ring. When I drove my Camaro, I had no ABS which is kinda scary if you have to slam on your brakes. Ok, it is scary. Another thing, with no reluctor ring in you rear end, as soon as you move your car, you ABS INOP light will kick on.

It is press fitted so, if you try to use your old reluctor ring, be careful because more than likely you'll break it when you put it back on. I would just go ahead and buy a new one. It would suck to have the old reluctor ring break, I would imagine it would cause lots of damage to the rear end.

Also, if your wondering how the reluctor ring works with the ABS. Well, in a short answer. If you look right above where the reluctor ring is located, you will notice a small magnate sensor. The sensor will notice how fast the reluctor ring is spinning, that will then be sent to the ABS letting it know just how much braking is needed at the speed you are going. It's much more complicated than that, but that'z the easiest way I can explain it without going into more detail. ;)
