• simple gear oil question

After doing my brake swap, I refilled the differential with 80W90 instead of what it seems most people here recommend (75W90). What is the difference between the two and is it safe to use 80W90?

yes, im well aware of the additive issue

      Torsen for GM vehicles:

Is it true that the Torsen unit in the production Camaro needs the GM modifier added?

GM issued a technical bulletin adding modifier to the rear axle oil. This was done to quiet what we call a "Rusty Screw" noise that we heard in a very small percentage of vehicles. This does not happen in all cases, however to address owner's concerns we asked that the modifier be used in all instances to insure that the driver would not get this noise. When replacing the fluid it is at the owner's discretion whether or not to add the modifier. Elimination of the modifier does not affect durability of the differential.

but anyway... back to my question

No, I have never been one to use synthetics, call it personal preference

I dunno.. I would but the moddifier in there then.. if you havent.. i cant tell from your responce above..

I dont really buy that whole paragraph from the torson website..

I stick by GM's recomendations.. and I looked up the procdures in the 98 GM repair manuals.. they said to use it allways..
