• Aluminum DS Questions

I am going to get an aluminum drive shaft. I have a few questions. Any comments or advice would be appreciated.

-How many of you have broken an aluminum DS?

-Do I really need a DS safely loop?

-Will I need to have the DS balanced?

-Has anyone noticed more vibration from the one piece aluminum DS?

I don't have one but I have looked into it.

-never heard of one being broke

-DR loop is a good idea, do you need one? Not until you break a u-joint.

-Balance, I don't know, I wouldn't think so, but it couldn't hurt.

-Vibration, this is the whole reason GM put a two piece in the V6, they are inherently unbalanced. So yeah I would think you would feel a little more vibration.

For what its worth Jegs totally pized me off, they sell a one piece aluminum DR for the mustang, brand new 190.00. Makes me sooooo mad.
I have made a lot of money in my life, most of which I spent on cars and women.<p>The rest I have blown.

I've felt a little more vibration with the aluminum drive shaft, but its not a big deal. Only noticable while at highway speeds. If you buy a new driveshaft it will come balanced. If not, its not hard to check to see if it is balanced. There will be a small metal weight welded near the end that goes into the tranny (at least mine did)

With regards to the safty loop, There is a brace that ties the two sides of the chassis together that sits under the driveshaft. I would think that would provide you with enough protection?? I just taking a wild guess, but I believe the weakest point of the drivshaft is where it connects to the tranny.

Anyway good luck I highly recommend this mod. It really help with the gas milage too

I really don't think you'll have a problem with breaking the driveshaft. But it is always good to get a safety loop installed since it's cheap and you have the driveshaft off anyway. It should come balanced and you shouldn't notice extra vibration. My car came with an aluminum 3" stock and I didn't notice any vibration over my 2000 V6 Camaro's 2 piece.
