ummm... probably because he has a great converter and a good setup. i have had the p 1870 code transmission component slippage, first the guy put a spring from a 700 pump in then still had the code so i got a new converter and it went away, check your tranny fluid see if it smells burnt.
Longtubes, true duals, ram air, caspers tps tec, ls1 26lb injectors, supersix powerpack, heads milled .020, comp cam .507 220/224 114 ls, forged internals and chromeoly pushrods, bored .030 over, tb spacer, tranny built with stiffer springs and kevlar bands, bigger servo, transgo stage 3 shift kit, edge 3600 stall, 1 pc aluminum ds, 3.73 superior gears, lsd rear ,custom pcm tuning, walbro 255 in tank,
I run 13.3 with a 75 shot as well If my tranny wasnt messed up i would be a mid-low 12 sec car with my 100 shot. But maybe i should just skip 12's and straight for 11's

i changed fluid and it wasnt burnt or smell like it. i think im goin to have Mike at Yank rebuild the converter or send me a new one.
so is that all it should be is the converter?.....it does grind at about 50mph at part throttle...and when the SES light is on i notice the 1st to 2nd shift is a lot harder then when the SES light is off.....so i duno

I got that code but I have an ext. warrenty something about something having to be rebuilt cause GM flaked on it so much that they made a special tool to fix it.
1800 dollars worth of work of wich i paid 35 Error went away.
I purchased the transgo corrective shift kit which comes with a new PWM valve. The kit was designed specifically for the P1870 code. I then spent 300 to have it installed. No problems 6 months later.
I got this post from another forum about my probs........
Its a common problem with some '95, and all '96 later 4L60-E valvebodies. These transmissions used a Regulated Apply TCC system. There is a valve in the valvebody that will wear out its bore after much use. I have seen them wear out with 20,000 miles, and I have seen some go over 100,000 miles. The valve wears out and keeps the converter from locking, or locking intermittantly, usually when hot. The PCM monitors TCC slip and when slip exceeds 150 RPM, the code will set and the line pressure is set to MAX (causing the harsh shifts). Anyhow, there are three different ways to fix this problem:
1) Replace the valvebody. GM is remanufacturing these valvebodies w/ an updated TCC Regulated apply valve lineup to prevent future failures. Cost of valvebody: $450.00
2) Install a Sonnax "Repair Kit" for this problem. The kit costs $40, but you need a $140 Reamer or borrow somebodies.
3) Install a spring behind the regulated apply valve to eliminate the regulated apply feature completely. Cost: whatever a small spring costs
