were is the rev limiter set. also where are the shift points set at.. i did a search and found nothing..

The rev limiter is at 6000 in forward gears.

I am confident that nobody actually knows what the shift points are... I think people will just speculate based upon what they think they should be. I'd like to know the answer as well

Very true. They are not set. It depends on tps percent open, calculated load value, vehicle speed, rpms... The pcm does it's own thing based on several variables. Mine has shifted around 5800 at wot, and at other times it has shot past 6000 and banged the limiter at wot (usually on the 2-3 shift). There is the whole thing with the torque management coding in the pcm too, which I think plays with timing advance right at shift time, to take a little load off of the shift, and it alters the solenoid pressure too, depending on conditions, to change the shift duration.

Addition of a shift kit should keep you from creeping into higher rpms while the shift is trying to complete. Or at least minimize the effect. A stock transmission, or worse, an older transmission, may take longer to shift and rpms can continue to climb until the next gear fully takes hold.

Way too many variables for my brain...

Since Ive spent much time playing with the Shifting of my car I'll wirte a bit here. On my 97 auto bird I have tried much to play with the way the car shifts and I can now hit the limiter in every gear ( no shifter kits or tuners, just with the stock setup ) The thing Ive noticed about the shifting is that its at a bit over 6000 for me, but what ive noticed is that the RPM isnt what I notice =) I look at speed. I can be goin outta 1st @ 33-36 mph, at near red line, but with proper play I can get it to shift at 40mph 1 limiter hit and it power shifts into 2nd. Im thinkin that a new driveshaft will make the power more usable because the problem with the odd shifting is inertia of the vehiclas wheels flywheel ( Tq converter ) and driveshaft spinning. For me I get a better shift when Im going faster - for every gear. Yeah. Im just gonna leave it at that and u can think about it if u like

The only shift points I care about are at WOT... and I believe that they are supposed to have been predetermined... I wanted to play with it with HPP3, but I don't know really where I am starting from. All I would know is if the shift points are +1mph, +2mph,...etc above stock (whatever the stock number is)

BTW, I think the stock shift points in the LS1 are widely known...lol
