So my clutch is being replaced, but it is costing me a fortune! When they opened up the tranny and the clutch fell to pieces. The throw out bering shot through the pressure plate and the slave clyinder was done. Lastly the flywheel needed to be resurfaced. The total damage is costing me 850 to replace and get my car back on the road.
Can someone explain to me what the hell a slave clyinder is and what it does?
2002 M5 camaro- VTR CAI, custom cat-back exhaust, battery compacitor, pullie, lowering springs, 32mm sway bar, cross-drilled slotted rotars. 1-10\" L7 in cubby.
You push the clutch pedal, which moves a piston in the master cylinder. That increases hydraulic pressure in the system and causes a force to be exerted on a piston in the slave cylinder at the other end of the line. The moving piston causes the clutch to disengage.
But it's also a great idea to replace it when you go change the clutch. You have to remove the tranny to change it, so now's the time to do it...rather than when you actually need it later.

Makes you feel anybetter, I did it on a 2k with 7,000 miles on it.
but the flywheel was unfixable, and the master was replaced too. But it was all under warranty at the dealership at the time.
Then around 35,000 miles I began to have fluid problems. Fluid kept getting cooked, and going bad so I swapped the fluid and it helped.
then around 48,000 miles clutch was slipping bad, replaced clutch, and all hydraulics since it was believed my fluid was getitng contaminated. I did the master first it helped pedal location feel alot. Then I did the slave, when I did the clutch.
Car felt great, great pedal feel great everything.
Then 2nd trip to the track, like 2500 miles later.
Boom transmission explodes.
52,000 miles
on my....
3rd clutch
3rd slave
3rd master
3rd flywheel
and soon to be 2nd transmission.
IF you plan on racing and you are going to all the work, I woudl keep the though of upgrading in your head.

When you do your clutch you would have to replace PPlate, TOB , and slave at the same time anyways. Mine new Centerforce TOB died in 2 month trashing my new slave , how did THAT happened?
