  • Q about putting in limited-slip additive

Well after I've had my Moser on about 2 weeks, lately I've been noticing a kinda grinding noise coming from the rear when I go around turns. I've been thinking about it, and I don't think the shop that put the rear on put the limited-slip additive in it, which is causing the clutches and all in the posi to grind a bit when I turn.

So anyways, since the rear is only a couple weeks old, can I just put the additive in? Or do I need to change all the oil? If I hafta change all the oil, should I put the additive in first, or last, or does it even matter?

Also, anyone know what size allen wrench I need to take the plug out of the rear? Or if there's an easier way to take it out? Cuz I'll hafta go buy an allen wrench to get it off, as I've never changed rear-end fluids before. (no, I didn't get the TA cover)

I have read alot about the moser 12 bolts makein noise like that alot man im not sure it shouldnt be the additive i am not using it. And i have no creaking or grinding what fluid are u using
if it is a synthetic i would change it to a 80w 140

They make gear whine, but they shouldn't make this grinding noise when I turn around a corner or something as far as I know. I'm pretty sure they didn't use synthetic in the rear, I told them twice to make sure it wasn't synthetic. I've just heard that without the additive the clutches in the posi and all will grind some, so I'm assuming that's what it is.

not sure about mosier, but most other diffs i've seen take a half inch socket drive to pull the plug out.
you can\'t get off if you don\'t get on

actually on my car its a 3/8" socket

as for the whole grinding deal, I would try changing oil over to something thicker

like Amsoil 75w-140 or something (which already has the additive in it I believe)

If you don't want to do that, you could just add the additive, but you might need to take out a little diffy fluid so the additive just doesn't come right back out of the fill hole. Realize also that it will take a little while for the additive to mix in with everything, do some figure 8's somewhere to mix it all in well.
