My M5 is a quiet trans for all intesive purposes... but if I start running the RPMs up in 3rd and 4th gear and essentially driving it like I would on a circuit, when I back off and throw it in 5th to cruise or just let off in 4th, it makes a very loud whimperwhistle noise that is quite annoying. I've never seen another transmission do this, but do you guys with M5s have this issue?
I don't think anything is really wrong, hell its done it from day 1, but I just want to make sure this is to be expected. ;)
mine just started doing that in 5th gear when i was pulling into town after a 130 mile drive..its never done it before...hopefully its nothin that cost money cuz im broke...
Well mine has done it since I got it, I believe its normal, but I wish I knew what was doing it. I really don't want to roll into a dealership and complain since it requires hard driving to demonstrate the noise.
Mine has a whirring sound once the car is up to normal op temperatures. If that is the sound that you are hearing it could be contributed to the transmission fluid that we use. ATF is thinner than gear oil. That would allow for sound of the gears to be less muffled when warm.
