• Shift kit at 98k miles?

    Hey guys, I have a 98 Camaro with an A4 and I am looking into getting a TransGo Shiftkit. Could anyone provide some basic information on this? Is the install straight forward, or would I need to take it to a shop? I have heard that a shift kit may not be a great idea with this high of mileage. My car is getting close to the 100k mark, and I have no clue if the tranny fluid has been changed. I have heard that after this long, if the tranny fluid hasnt been changed then the dirty tranny fluid could actually be the only thing keeping your transmission shifting. Is this true? Would there be any problems with installing a shift kit at this mileage? Also any other information you want to provide would be great. Thanks in advance!

        Yes, if the tranny fluid has never been changed, then i wouldnt do it. If the fluid has been changed when it was suppose to, then go for it.

        When the oil gets so dirty, it wears the gears down, to a certain point, where they cant be worn down anymore. Putting new fluid in takes EVERYTHING out, now you have huge gaps everywhere in your tranny... and guess what? something needs to fill those gaps.. your gears will grind togerther, and ruin the tranny.

        I have seen it happen way too many times.

          </font>
boo on you.

          If he has that condition to his tranny with the mileage he has, then he has more problems then a flush. Most people i talk to didnt get theres flushed until 50-80k miles. I did mine at 40k or so and would say sooner the better and do it regularly, some even do it every 10-15k.

          Also, it may have already been flushed before. Check the fluid to see if there is any impurities and check the color and smell. Hell taste it if you want. How's that for bad advice you jerk face.

              </font>
you dont just tell someone to do it untill you know the full story.

              If i fall, and i have a bone sticking out of my leg, and i ask you if i can walk, you dont just say "sure, get up, you will be fine"

              You know what? I hope he does it, and his tranny breaks... and guess what, it will be your fault.

                  The previous owner of my Camaro put a Trans-go kit on it at 90,000 miles and I had a flush/change done this summer at 108,000 miles. Still works great despite the fluid only having been changed once before. I say go for it.

                    Stealerships recommend that you get your AT fluid changed every 30k miles.
