• Zexel Torsen “Missing Parts”

Today, I finally received my Torsen that I bought 11/15/05! I opened the box, took it out, and found that I’m missing these parts shown in the picture below:

Where can I find them??? Thanks!

Well that sucks. Yeah SLP sold a bunch of those Zexels without the lock bar and bolt years ago. Guess they're still floating around.

I ordered one from SLP back in '99. At the time all you had to do was call SLP up and they would send you the missing parts. It's a long shot but you could give them a call and see if they still have any extras lying around. Other than that you're pretty much screwed, that piece is unique to the Zexels. You can't reuse the lock pin from your open or Auburn carrer, and without that piece your axles won't stay in place. Maybe the dealer has those parts available seperately, but I doubt it, they probably come with the carrier. And nobody with a Zexel is going to want to sell just those pieces because without them the differential is useless.

Your best bet is to try and get your money back from the seller.

Call up the seller and start *****ing. Then demand your money back because he sent you a useless piece of scrap metal.

hahaha!
someone on Ebay ripped me off the same way!
They didnt give me the "Thrust Block"
or the "Retaining Pin"
The bastard never gave it to me
He said thats how it came, straight out of his rear-end.
So I bought those 2 pieces from Another seller for $20.

Personally, I would go look in junkyards for LS1 rear-ends. Take out just those 2 pieces

I just emailed him a couple minutes ago asking if he happened to have those parts just laying around or something. If not, I will call SLP and ask them. This is the reason I never installed my 4.10s yet. Because of waiting for this crap! Oh well, what’s another couple months!
BTW, Thanks guys!

off hand I am not an expert, but I believe with 4.10s you need a modified block, that you can order form SLP.

but yeah you do need those parts

Do these take the place of the lock bar/block on the Zexel?

http://www.slponline.com/view_product.asp?P=64002

Looks like you need those to install 4.10's anyway, or else a modified stock block.

You'll still need the bolt though.

It's the pinion shaft and the bolt that holds it in place. Like was already said, without it your axles wouldn't stay in place.

I’m really starting to get mad now. Because I emailed him 3 times during that 35 day period asking if he sent it, what’s going on, stuff like that. He kept emailing me back saying he will send it tomorrow, and I would wait like 10 days and nothing! So I’m starting to think I should get my $144 back, because I really don’t want to go looking threw some rednecks junk yard for 2 stupid little parts! Just asking, if he refuses to give me my money back, will PayPal give me a refund or something? Thanks guys.

You can file a claim with PayPal and they will email the seller for a resolution. It's a long process though so you won't be getting any money back anytime soon, unless you told them you never got the item and the seller would not respond to their inquiry, then they try to take the money back.

Eric brought up a good point though about the Zexel differentials and using 4.10 gears. The ring gear is too thick and partially blocks the opening that the block (that part you're missing) has to slide into the center. So apparently you have to either grind away some of the teeth and block, or you have to use those paddles that SLP sells. Since they're thinner and there's two of them, you probably slide one in, then push it over to the side and slide the other in beside it.

Here you can see what I'm talking about. These are 3.73 gears, and you can see the ring gear is blocking the one side of the opening. I didn't have a lot of difficulty getting the block in there, just kinda had to wiggle it in at an angle, but I didn't think about 4.10's being a thicker gear.

If the seller is willing to do a partial refund since he sold you an incomplete unit, then you could put that towards the kit from SLP and then you wouldn't have to worry about modifying the stock parts.

If I got the Paddle Kit from SLP, I won’t need that Torsen Block thing anymore, but I still need that little pin bolt thing right?

BTW, thanks FunkZ for helping me so much!

EDIT: OMG, I just opened my 4.10s box upside down and the Pinion Gear hit the cement floor! It left a very small white chip on the very top of one of the teeth. Kind of unnoticeable, did that harm anything?

Yes you'll still need the bolt. But you may be in luck. Here's a picture of one from an Auburn differential, it looks the same as a Zexel bolt. Basically just a long pin with a ½" section of threads under the head. Your open carrier bolt might just work in the Zexel too.

As far as the ring gear teeth, probably not a big deal. They wear on the sides anyway, not the top.

 You should be a moderator or something. Helping me out so much. Thanks man! I already sold that Auburn I had so I could purchase the Torsen. So the only pin that I could use would be out of my open differential. I need to know for sure that my Open Diff. Pin and that SLP Paddle Kit will work together. Hopefully yes. Do you know for sure? Again thanks for your help!
