  • Shifter Problems

Well, I was on the way home from the movies and my shifter decided not to let me shift into 5th gear or reverse (it just won't go in)! What could be the problem, because all of the other gears are fine?

Try pulling the leather boot off, i heard there are little rubber glides between the gears that can sometimes interfere..
i only heard that happening between 1st and second but who knows...
Good thing 5th gear is just a sleeper gear.

I pulled the shifter completely out and I used a rod to try to put it in 5th gear/reverse but it still won't go in those gears! :(
BTW, is there supposed to be a very little amount of fluid in "the box" where the shifter goes into?

</font>[/QUOTE]I'm pretty sure a little fluid under the shifter is normal. Do you have a stock shifter, or did you replace it with something else?

I found out it's the input shaft and bearings. It's gonna cost an arm and a leg unless I can replace it myself. But I don't have all the time or resources to get it done. :(

sorry to hear that... good luck to you though
i always like trying to do things myself instead
of getting raped by a mechanic.. but time and
            resources are your issue.

Looks like I'll be getting a free Luk clutch with it, though!
