i posted earlier that i had loud clunking noises from my m5 when i was starting from a stop. a bunch of you guys posted saying you had a similar problem and it was a broken transmission mount. well, i talked with my dad, and when he drove the car he drove it like an old lady and the sound wasn't as loud as it is when i drive the car. i don't drive the crap out of the car, but my dad drives like he's 80. he says that it's just driveline chatter and that things have just "loosened up" since i got the car. do any of your transmission make any kind of noise when you drive? i don't think they do cause i have driven some friends' cars (other fbodies) and they don't make noise and they have way more miles then mine. i don't think there is any way that it is just "drive line chatter". what do you guys think?

When you accelerate in 1st or 2nd gear does your stick move noticeably upwards and then decend quickly when you let off the gas??

Thats how mine was when I had a broke mount, and it made a loud CLUNK like someone was banging under my seat when I'd goto shift gears because of it.

thanks, my stick does do that, so that is another sign. i'm going to fix it this week. this is something i can do my self pretty easily right? i should just be able to put the car on some stands and replace the mount right?

yea i replaced my tranny. soo obviously i had to replace mounts. while your at it i beleove if you put polyurathane bushings you may have less movement in your stick coming from your tranny torquing around and that usually helps shifting a little. uhh humm lemmesee iff the 200 maros are anything like the 1994 youd begin by removing the driveshaft from the rearend first by 4 bolts. then you may have a 2 peice driveshaft that there a bracket that comes off from there that connects to a rail that runs dont the middle of the car. then pull the driveshaft str8 out of the tranny watch your eyes and expect a sh** load of tranny fluid, and plug it they make trans plugs for only like a few bux. thatll keep all the tranny juice inside. then theres a matter of romoving all the the trans mounts. do not forget to support the motor cause i think you can break the motor mounts if you let the trans hang not sure if it will but i just seems like once the mounts were off the motor leaned back some? any ways noone flame me if im wrong about anything im just tryin to do my f body part. hope it helps. ohh wait there a site that'll show you how to take off your trans ill find it and get back to you on it.

If you can just take it in for warranty... its a 15minute cheap little job. The guys here installed a 1LE mount for me :D

They make a 1LE mount for the T-5??? A few people have put the GM standard tranny mount in their V6's (talking manuals only here, automatics are same tranny, get same driveshaft and same crossmember)

The Manual V6 has a different crossmember than the Automatic or V8 car. Unless you notch it, the bolt hole for the center of the transmission mount isn't long enough. I notched mine and stuck in a Energy Suspension polyurethane transmission mount - the standard GM type. Only to find a severe vibration due to the later learned fact that the GM mount sits about a half inch lower than the V6 mount and throws off the driveshaft angle. So I removed it and installed a new OEM manual V6 mount.

The 1LE should be a tougher rubber version of the standard GM type Transmission mount. But I think it would cause the vibration just the same. A couple people have said that it goes away after a couple days of driving. And it costs 19.95 vs the 100 dollar OE mount.

If you are going to do it, I would recommend trying to get a hold of a cheap Z28's (or and automatic V6) crossmember so that the bolt hole is already lined up for you, without a plasma cutter its a hack-job at best. Mines' butchered. Then install the ES, or Prothane mount, and I'd go ahead and use the stack plate that comes with the kit.

This is all I did when I changed my tranny mount with the ES Poly Mount and I have a 99 Maro:
              1. Remove the nut holding the mount to the crossmember
              2. Use a floor jack to jack the tranny up until the mount studs clears the hole on the crossmember
              3. Remove the 4 bolts that holds the crossmember to the body
              4. Remove the 2 bolts that hold the mount to the tranny
              5. Using a die grinder (that's what I used), die grind the alignment hole towards the front of the crossmember facing the front of the car until hole on the ES mount is visible through the mount
              6. Installation is in the reverse order and torque all bolts to factory specs.

Bliggida, the plate that comes with the ES Poly Mount is used as a preload plate that goes between the mount and tranny.

thanks a lot guys. i go under the car on saturday and found the problem. you know the two bolts that hold the transmission to the rubber bushing that then bolts to the mount? well, one of those was completely gone and the other was about half way out. so i found some bolts matching the one that came out and bolted it back down. that totally fixed the problem. the sound is gone, the stick doesn't move. it only took about 30-45 minutes to get the whole thing done. just for anyone else's information if you every have the same problem the bolt is a 10mm bolt with a 1.5mm pitch. and the length doesn't so much matter because the hole in the transmission goes all the way through the case, so it can stick out the other end.
