I was talking to the chief mechanic at my local Pontiac dealer today and he said that GM made the Zexel-Torsen diff. more for road racing and autox than drag racing. I can somewhat agree w/ his statement because since the Zexel can adjust the amout of torque translated to each individual rear wheel, that would help keep traction in corners a lot better than a posi differential or locking differential. Has anyone else heard about this? Do any of you have opinions on whether it is more suited for road racing than drag racing?

Many people drag race with torsens. I believe the main reason some drag racers prefer a clutch type LSD (which is what GM means by "positraction") is that they can easily be made to handle more torque than a torsen.
If all you do with the car is drag race, the torsen has no significant advantage. If you've got more than 400HP or so, it's hard to find a torsen that's strong enough.
GM went to the torsen because it doesn't wear out like a clutch type LSD, it handles braking and acceleration in turns much better, and it works well in combination with electronic traction control.
Most people seem to think the torsen is a better idea for a combination street/strip car, if it can handle the power you're putting into it.2000 Firebird convert, chameleon/tan, M5, Y87, TCS, BMR tower brace and panhard, KBDD sfcs, 245/50-16 GSCs
