Owners manual wouldn't tell you a thing. Autos come with 2 different possible gears. To find which gears you have:

You're looking for a white sticker on either the inside lid of the glove box or the end of the driver's door that has a bunch of 3-digit alphanumeric codes. These are your RPO codes and tell you exactly what equipment your car came equipped with when you compare them to the list linked above.

You could have 3.08 or 3.42 from the factory.

Do you have limited slip? Check for the code G80

limited slip differential = posi-traction = 2 wheel spins in a straight line (not corners)

They're typically used to describe the same thing. Even the GM RPO code for it uses both terms: G80 AXLE POSITRACTION, LIMITED SLIP

                              http://auto.howstuffworks.com/differential.htm
                              http://www.ring-pinion.com/content/t...lhelp/?pid=111

Positraction is derived from positive traction, or a way to increase traction, which effectively means the same thing as limiting wheel slip.
