  • Will this posi work?

    http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/96-Tr...QQcmdZViewItem

Will that work for my car, and does it need a pinion shaft and is it shown there?
    Thanks.

I am sure that it will work, I want to know if it needs a pinion shaft, and can you tell by looking at the pic if it is there?

I think you mean locking pin. And yes, in the first pic you can see the pin is in place. It's the silver disc on the side of the unit below the springs. Not sure about the bolt that holds it in place, it would be located on the other side. But in any case, your stock open rear locking pin and bolt should fit that Auburn in a pinch.

A pinion is something else that isn't required for a differential swap. You can see one in the background of the second pic. That's the pinion flange where the drive shaft bolts to, and the long shaft is part of the pinion gear.

ok thanks man. So if I get this, I should be able to complete the swap and be on my way to the "real" burnouts?

Double-check you've got a GU5 gear code. And before you put it in take a close look at the bearings. But other than that you should be good to go.

Just to clear up any confusion here....the "correct" name for the locking pin you're referring to is the pinion shaft, while the bolt is the pinion shaft retaining bolt. ;)

Well that's a misnomer. I can't see what they have to do with the pinion.

GM Parts manual refers to them as Shaft, Diff and Bolt, Diff.

                Sorry for any confusion.

My parts manual says Shaft, Diff P/GR....which means Differential Pinion Gear Shaft. They call it that because it's for the pinion gear inside the differential. ;)
