  • My car has LSD!?!?

Well it all started with a friend telling me that one of my tires was more worn than the other, which it wasnt. I always thought i had a one wheel pull open differential until today when i was actually paying attention and my left rear wheel spun at the bottom of my driveway in some mud. I always thought my right wheel spun. So anyways i got to my friends house and powerbraked it and there are 2 long black streaks. I do it again and its the same. I know when he powerbrakes his camaro only one black streak is on the pavement. So i have LSD afterall. My question is where on my car would the Y87 package be found assuming i have it. I thought it would be printed in the driver side dor jam but i didnt see it. I just wanted to know if it came from the factory or if the guy before me put it in. Also is there any way to tell what gears i have in my car?

If you have G80 then you've got LSD. If it's not there then you don't have it, unless the previous owner swapped it in.

Given the right conditions, it is possible for both wheels to spin with an open diffy.

Way to know for sure: remove diff cover and look at it.

i think it must be lsd cuz the black marks are about the dame lengths and darkness. Will the G80 code be in the driver side door? All i could find on mine is alot of stuff about tire pressure and tire size.

It should be with all the other codes. Also try checking in the glove box compartment.

Ok i will check there. There were no codes in the door jam just a bunch of tire sizes and pressures and then the little message about when it was made and all that stuff. Thanks for the help.

I found all of the codes. What is the code for the open differential on a 96?

The code for open diffy is the lack of code G80. ;)

It's normal. I'm 3.08 open, and do the same thing. If your drive tire is spinning the other tire will spin to try to get traction. Jack up the rear of your car and put it in drive, you'll see only your drive tire spins.
