  • what is that part attatched to the side of the tranny?

Hey guys, I have a 95 camaro 5 speed, Today i had it on the lift and my mechanic says somethings leaking. He pointed to that valve contraption on the drivers side of the trans that has a braided line attatched to it. What is this. He said it it could be replaced easily. I didnt really listen to him because I have no problems with the clutch or the tranny and im thinking the fluid was from else where. What is this thing and can it be replaced easily. It was leaking at the tip of it supposively not where it attaches to the tranny. Thanks guys

Thats what I was thinking but everyone keeps saying the slave is inside the tranny not outside.

How do you expect the clutch fluid to get to the tranny? The slave cylnder is internal. The line brings the fluid.

The slave is inside where you can't see it. It sounds like you're talking about the hydrolic line that plugs into the slave.

Check the lines first, see if they are loose. They should be connected to the metal lines going into the trans housing with no movement. They are flexible, but should not be loose where they connect to the slave.

If one of the lines are bad, you'll have to replace the Clutch Master. If the leak is coming from inside of the trans, it's the slave.

Not sure if the clutch master cylinder can be replaced if the trans is still intact, but you'll definitely have to pull the trans to replace the slave.

The 3.4L has an external slave with a clutch fork. Its not a 3.8L

                Yeah, Eric is correct.

The 3.4 has the clutch slave cylinder hanging outside the trans, and yes that's the part you're looking at. It is extremely easy to replace if necessary. It is a PITA to bleed however as there is no bleed screw.

So I wouldnt have to remove the tranny to replace this part. Is it a simple, bolt off/on procedure. How would I bleed it if i needed to replace it? Do you know the part number for this part. Thanks guys for your help.

ok thanks again guys. I am having trouble understanding the bleeding procedure. I dont see it mention anything about pumping the clutch which is what i thought you are suppose to do. Can someone whos done it before simplify the steps as I have no idea what the haynes manual is saying. Thanks.

I haven't done it before, but basically they're saying because there's no bleed screw, you have to make sure the fluid resevoir / master cylinder is at the highest point in the system, so all the air works its way up and out.

Where the release (slave) cylinder is bolted to the trans is too high, you have to unbolt it from the trans and hang it from a piece of wire. Really I don't see why you couldn't just leave it hanging from the hydraulic line or lying on the ground. Anyway, once you've got the slave lower than the master you disconnect the master and work the plunger in and out so the air travels up to the resevoir.
