1998 Silverbird, you dynoed with 433rwtq. Did the trans hold up? Has your trans given you any trouble?

Mine is still holding up and I should have similar numbers with 231rwhp (N/A) plus a 100 shot. However, at the track, I have a very hard time getting the car into 2nd gear so I know it will not last forever. I just want to know what yours is doing.
Sounds like you are losing your 2nd gear synchros, or a possible bent shift fork, I lost those on 3 T5s when I had my 3.4L. pretty soon it will likely stop letting you in.

        are the 3.4 and 3.8 t-5s interchangeable? both are rpo m49, but. . . . that's too easy

some of the 3.4 versions were not WC spec because they were built before GM went over to all WC spec...

so if it is a WC then it would be usable? I noticed on tacreations website that they have the same torque rating. How can you tell if it is WC?

you have to check the casting numbers against the list that tremec/b-w keep.

the 3.8 version isn't that much more expensive, no need to try to save a few bucks on parts when you're talking about something as important as a tranny.

some of you may get a kick out of this, . . . I destroyed my clutch & tranny with one pass down the 1/4 about a month ago. I was using A Powedyne kit for a little motivation. I sold the kit to a friend and well . . . after two passes his t-5 is also now toast. He says he will be selling that kit soon . . My old kit is the tranny slayer!

My stock tranny held out pretty good.. It lasted 115,000 miles and about 50,000 miles I had the spray on it.. It broke when I was running my friends 89 Formula.. I was running him on motor went to bang 3rd gear and it grinded through it and broke it.. when we tore the tranny down there were 3 teeth left on 3rd gear.. If you dont bang gears, Power shift your tranny should hold up for a while.. I also had a stage 3 spec clutch on it..

When you tore down your tans, did you re-build it?

I have never broken down a transmission but I have rebuilt a few engines. Would you think that rebuilding a trans would be harder or easier then an engine?

I am just trying to figure out if I could do it.

I didnt rebuild it.. I have a friend that works for a ford dealership that rebuilds trannies for 150.00.. He did it.. I had a spare tranny with a broke 4th gear so he took both trannies I had and basically made one good one out of the 2..

I got an e-mail from a guy at G-Force Transmission. They recomend having a transmission shop do the re-build but check out this Acrobat file he gave me a link to:

                          http://www.ttcautomotive.com/English...ice_Manual.pdf

I have looked over it a little and it does not seem hard to rebuild a T-5. Tommorrow I will print the whole manual from work and go over it carfully. The only tools you need are some wrenches, a rubber mallet, c-clip pliers, a puller and a press (I have a press where I work). No feeler gauges or mics which usually indicate some very delicate adjustments.

I might give this a try.
