what's the best way to get the torque arm bracket back together underneath the car???? THe outer clamp does't want to clamp over the polybushing. I've gooped up the inside fo the clamp hoping it would slide better, but I'm jsut getting no love fromthe damn thing.

Mine went right back on -- might have been how I had things jacked / positioned. IS it in right? Does your torque arm match your car?
I had a tranny shop do install it with a tranny rebuild.
I broke the stock 4th gen torque arm and had a hard time getting a 3rd gen one in.
I just tightened it slightly without the torque arm in, then beat the piss out of the other end of the torque arm till it went in and tightened the mofo down.

I think I used a big C-clamp to clamp the bracket over the bushing while I tightened the bolts.
Actually, now that I think about it, I had a friend clamp the bracket halves together with a nice pair of channel-locks while I got the bolt started.
Either way should work. Might want to play with having the car up on jackstands on the frame, and having a jack under the diff to move it up and down and get the best alignment at the bushing end.

I used a C-clamp a little it was hard, I used the same one you use for power window motor changes and brakes.
It slipped ovv cuz its kinda angled...
A set of channel locks might work.

P.S. not ot anyone with a 4th gen, if you break your torque arm, don't be lazy and settle for the $10 3rd gen one they happen to have leaning against the wall behind the first junkyard you stop at. Get and aftermarket one or find a 4th gen one. to what I'm dealing with. I couldn't hold teh arm down enough while on the creeper w/the camera. THird gen arm, 4th gen bracket, energy suspension bushing.
Maybe I jst need another set of hands under there to help cuss.
btw Wicked 3800 V6, if you ever sell your bracket, iyt'll only work for other manual trannies, as I also have a 99 T/A manual bracket that was even more badder than the 85 bracket was.1978 Formula 461 in progress of being built :rock:

ok, I was able to get a bolt to pry between teh tunnel & the arm while I squeezed teh clamp ting together. It's on, all bolted up no prob.....
and one problem is replaced by another....
The VSS pigtail fromteh 95 harness is different than the vss sensor connector for teh 98tranny. WTF??????????
Now, if I make my own connector for this, does it really matter which connector the 2 wires go to????1978 Formula 461 in progress of being built :rock:

Ok that was the issue that I dealt with 4th gen bracket and bushing... but a 3rd gen torque arm...
I know its fixed, but for future, does a 3rd gen bracket fit on a 4th gen tranny?

my 3rd gen bracket fit the 95 auto, but wouldn't fit the 98.
Also, the 99 manual bracket wouldn't fit either yr auto.
as for the vss connector..... the 95 harness has a rectangle shap to it, the 98 sensor has an oval shape to it.
Does it matter which wires go to which conector????
edit: update the motormite pigtail #85100 "coolant temperature socket" fits perfectly int he 98 VSS. Only $8 and change!!!!!!!!!!!!!! score!!!!
