  • 3.42 or 3.73s

I would like to know what the benefits would be if i upgraded from my stock 3.23s to 3.42s. Would there be much of a difference or should i opt for the 3.73s. Also keep in mind i do a lot of highway driving. Thanks in advance for your help because i couldnt find anything concrete in the search.

you wont see as much of a gain with 3.42s since youve gotta manual, go with 3.73's, there will be a much larger difference ;) you should be able to get away with using 3.73's on the highway since youve gotta 5th gear.

lower gears would always be better for the highway, but go with 3.73s anyway

Here we go again, We really need a sticky on this and to lock all the new topics on something that has been asked, answered and debated over 500 times.

I guess he means higher gear or he knows nothing about them.

I just put mine in today the car feels great I just travel 97miles and I am happy with it. Just need to break in the LSD and afther that test it on the drag.

for auto 3.42's are the best all around gear (highway and performance). Manuals can get away with a lower gear so the 3.73's would be a great option. 4.10 is a little extreme imo but some swear by them.

im getting 3.73's but im a little paranoid about my highway gas mileage because i go up to ft lauderdake (120 mile round trip) about twice a month on avg. i have an a4...think i'll have to worry?

btw your 5 speed will be fine with 3.73's, ive heard numerous times that 3.42's are **** with 5 speeds

you'll be fine as long as you can stay out of the long skinny pedal leaving stop lights.
