Converter or kit?

That is the question!
I want to gain some performance but am shying away from the shift kit cause i been hearing they might be hard on the drivetrain mechanically.
I owe $$ on the car and want it to last for awhile. I have'nt seen any posts regarding converters being hard on the car, are they? Is the more expensive ($700) one worth it? In the mods database i see one for around $200.
Which is the harder install? I bought this car for a hobby. I don't want to pay anyone to do the mods.

I think they can both be done by a shadetree mechanic, but expect it to take some time.

Converter will give a LOT more performance, but it will be harder on your transmission.

Best thing in the world you could do for your transmission is install a transmission cooler. That would really cut down on the wear & tear.
