• Max speeds..

..Was just curious what the maximum mph speeds are in each gear for the M5 3.4 and 3.8's with the 3.23's of course..Unless someone has 3.42's I'd like to know that as well.

I got mine up to about 140mph a couple of months ago. That was in a 3.8 with a 5 speed and 3.23's.

I was in 5th gear at about 4200rpm. THe gearing would have allowed me to go a lot faster, but I ran out of horsepower. I was accelerating about 1mph every 20seconds.

Since our speedometer only goes up to 125, I used some very crude math to estimate my actual speed. If any of you cynical non believers want to check my math and provide me with a more accurate figure, feel free. I know that I was at 4200rpm, with stock tranny and 3.23s.

Hmm, I would think you would have enough power to get to atleast 150, since you run a 13.75 in the 1/4. How fast(mph) can you get 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th gear up to before you hit the limiter?

That site only gives the ratios for 3.42's. I can't for the life of me find the gear ratio's for a 3.23's

See where it says Axle Ratio on the left? Type in 3.23. Done.

Just make sure you're using 1995+ F-Body V6, as it has the correct ratios for an M5 V6.

Ya I did try that but the numbers they gave me for 3.23's were 38 mph in 1st, 65 mph in 2nd and 101 mph in 3rd. There is no way in hell that is correct, or my speedo is way off.(And I do have 245/50/R16's, and they had that as the tire size) Are you sure that the gear ratios in each gear are the same on both 3.23's and 3.42's? Has anyone got to 101 mph in 3rd in there M5!??!?

I trap in the quarter at 101.7, and I am usually shifting into 4th when I cross the finish line. I can go 101 in 3rd.

Either that or the guy that had the car before me had 3.42's installed, but I highly doubt it. What I see as max speeds are redline in my car are like 33 in 1st, 60 in 2nd, and maybe 92-92 in 3rd. That's with 3.23 (supposedly) and 245/50/R16's all the way around.

That 13.75 was on nitrous. I woun't use the giggle juice on a topspeed run, I would probably melt a piston.

I reset my rev limiter to 6700, so I don't know how fast I can go in each gear right now. It's pretty fast though. That chart in the link is very accurate. It will tell you.

According to the gear calculator, you do have 3.42's installed. You description matches the info on that website within 1 or 2mph, which could be accounted for with speedo innaccuracies.

It also says that with my gearing, I could theoretically reach 220mph at my 6700rpm redline in 5th gear.

Time to see if that new turbo of mine can really make power or not.
