  • How bad would this be?

I'm taking a trip down to Georgia (from NJ) next week, I'll have my car back finally with the LT1 rear. The thing is I can't get it programmed before then; how bad would it be driving that far with the 3.42s instead of 3.08s without anything recalibrated? What should I avoid doing? (WOT punches, etc)

As far as I know the speedo will read about 40 mph faster and will add the mileage on as if it was doing that speed. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

      3.08 to 3.42 is a 9.94% difference. At 70mph the difference is 6.958 mph.

so when I'm at 70 it'll read liek 77? Does that mean it'll read around... 89-90 if im doing 80?

Also I was asking more if I would damage anything... Little g mentioned something about not doing WOT because the shift points would be off??

If your speedometer says 70mph, you're really going 63mph.

Yes, your shift points will be off. It's not gonna hurt anything. Years ago there was no tuning available and people drove around with gear swaps with the shift points off...no big deal.

Most likely your cruise control will not work. I know on the 2001 it wouldn't but it might in the 1997s.

This is because the PCM compares the speed that the transmission sees vs the speed of the rear end (calculated from the ABS system). If it sees too great of a difference, the cruise shuts off. When I went from 3.23s to 3.42s, the cruise would not work over 65 mph. Once I programed the speedometer, the cruise worked again.

Just something to think about before you drive 1000 miles.

I never use cruise control anyway, my right foot is my cruise control haha. And my speedo will read 70 when its really 63, so it will read around 78 or 79 when im doing 70? read 90 when im doing 80?

                  3.73 - 3.23 = .5

                  .5 / 3.23 = 15.5%

Your speedometer will be showing 15.5% higher then you are actually going.

At 60 miles per hour, your speedometer will be reading 69.3 mph.
